The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks永生的海拉
By Rebecca Skloot
Reviewer: Chelsea Yu-Pre E
永生的海拉
About the book
Her name was Henrietta Lacks, but scientists know her as HeLa. She was a poor black tobacco farmer whose cells—taken without her knowledge in
1951—became one of the most important tools in medicine, vital for developing the polio vaccine, cloning, gene mapping, in vitro fertilization, and more. Henrietta’s cells have been bought and sold by the billions, yet she remains virtually unknown, and her family can’t afford health insurance.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to The Galaxy银河系搭车指南
By Douglas Adams
Reviewer: Lily A2-G
银河系搭车指南
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to The Galaxy is a classic Sci-fi: you can tell by the name of it.
Basically, it tells the story of a down-to-earth little human who was ‘forced’ to explore the wonders of the universe in a very un-traditional way. But please don’t panic—these words are even written on the cover of the little book. Don’t panic when you see all kinds of exotic planets with startling lengthy names, fish that can translate words, mice that are smarter than earthlings, people who ‘build’ planets and designers who can ‘make' coastlines, and of course, the greatest wonder of all, the Infinite Improbability Drive that can carry you through hyperspace in mere seconds…
Rigorous science, unexpected humor and splendid fantasy are well-blended throughout the book to create a dizzying effect—it does take you sometime to understand and follow some of the ideas, but you will definitely be hooked once you managed to do so.
There are a series of books sequel to this one, to name but a few: The Restaurant at the End of the Universe; So long, and Thanks for all the fish; Mostly harmless…Originally a radio comedy broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in 1978, the entire series was later adapted to other formats, including stage shows, novels, comic books, a 1981 TV series, a 1984 video game, and 2005 feature film.
So…What exactly is a 'galaxy hitchhiker'?

The Art Of Travel 旅行的艺术
by Alain de Botton
(Reviewer: Nora Pre-C)
旅行的艺术
The Art of Travel is Alain de Botton's travel guide with a difference. Few activities seem to promise us as much happiness as going traveling: taking off for somewhere else, somewhere far from home, a place with more interesting weather, customs and landscapes. But although we are inundated with advice on where to travel to, we seldom ask why we go and how we might become more fulfilled by doing so. With the help of a selection of writers, artists and thinkers-including Flaubert, Edward Hopper, Wordsworth and Van Gogh-Alain de Botton's bestselling The Art of Travel provides invaluable insights into everything from holiday romance to hotel mini-bars, airports to sight-seeing--the perfect antidote to those guides that tell us what to do when we get there.
Alain de Botton is a Swiss-born British philosopher and author. His books discuss various contemporary subjects and themes, emphasizing philosophy's relevance to everyday life. He published Essays in Love (1993), which went on to sell two million copies. Other bestsellers include Status Anxiety (2004) and The Architecture of Happiness (2006).
About' non-place'
From The Art of Travel comes a wittily intriguing exploration of the strange "non-place" that he believes is the imaginative center of our civilization.
Given unprecedented access to one of the world's busiest airports as a ‘writer-in-residence’, Alain de Botton found it to be a showcase for many of the major crosscurrents of the modern world-from our faith in technology to our destruction of nature, from our global interconnectedness to our romanticizing of the exotic. He met travelers from all over and spoke with everyone from baggage handlers to pilots to the airport chaplain. Weaving together these conversations and his own observations of everything-from the poetry of room service menus to the silence in the middle of the runway at midnight-Alain de Botton has produced an extraordinary meditation on a place that most of us never slow down enough to see clearly.
